Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now claimed the prestigious cup on fourteen different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a dramatic equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup holders after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the opening stages.

However, Marseille fired two times late to seize a surprise advantage. Initially, the English forward converted from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving crucial kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing penalty victory.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
