In a surprising partnership that breaks usual expectations, the game developer has revealed an in-game crossover between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the popular anime series Attack on Titan. The unexpected Thanksgiving event runs from November 25 through December 22, providing complimentary additional story content for Shadows players.

Strange Mission Disclosed

According to the official announcement, "A mysterious meeting draws heroes Naoe and Yasuke into a new quest, where hints of prohibited practices and monstrous transformations reverberate through the obscurity." The narrative features a "strangely attired woman named Ada" who assigns the characters with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a key location from Attack on Titan—to liberate her friend from a clandestine sect.

The adventure focuses on "bizarre experiments and a terrifying foe" and is open to all players who have gained access to the Yasuke character.

Familiar Settings and Metamorphoses

The teaser features the Hidden Temple from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was earlier where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The preview concludes with a dramatic scene showing a character, likely the captive, changing into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.

Special Prizes and Additional Features

Players who successfully complete the mission will obtain an unique katana in addition to several artifacts hidden throughout the area in concealed chests. The update also contains in-store Attack on Titan item packs, featuring:

This release also introduces the game's third complimentary story addition, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted mission teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap distinctive techniques: Naoe reveals a performative version of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-fatal stealth takedowns. Loyal to its name, "A Puzzlement" also includes a new environmental puzzle that may finally explain some unresolved questions from the main storyline.

Previous Japanese Animation Collaborations

This marks scarcely the primary time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with famous anime franchises. The series earlier included a 2020 collaborative story linking Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Moreover, Valhalla subtly contained a quest that clearly referenced the well-known series One-Punch Man.
